Lake Como, Italy

Friday October 27, 2006

Today I leave Switzerland. I went for 3 days and stayed 9. It was incredible. I take the train today to Milan and switch trains to go to Como, Italy, and take a cruise on Lake Como on Saturday. Lake Como is the playground of the rich and George Clooney and Brad Pitt have homes there. The cruise will take about 6 hours.

Bruges, Belgium

Saturday and Sunday

I caught the 11:45 pm night train from Milan to Paris. They were sold out but someone advised me to go to the conductor of the 1st car and ask if there was room. For cash there was, 45 euros got me a bed in the sleeper car. I arrived in Paris the next morning and got another train to Brussels to catch the Bruges connection. Bruges has one of the most beautiful old city centers that I have seen in Europe. Belgium is famous for beer, lace, chocolate and frites {french fries} , except the use mayo rather than ketchup. The fountain had soap bubbles in it.

Halloween October 31, 2006

Did not realize it was Halloween until I was about to go to bed. I left Bruges, Belgium early this morning and caught the train to Amsterdam. I checked into the Hotel Verdi because no hostels were available today. The hotel is very close to the Rembrandt and Van Gogh Museums and I spent 2 hours each in those museums. The Rembrandt was by far my favorite and I love the famous Nightwatch picture by Rembrandt.

I moved from the Hotel Verdi to the Ship Avanti. Bunk beds on the ship located in the canals but much closer to downtown and the canals. I walked around the Red Light District later that night. You must really be careful taking pictures in the Red Light District because plain clothes policemen will appear from nowhere if you try to take pictures of the ladies in the windows. I also stopped in a "cafe" as a curiosity but did not partake since that is just not my thing.
